Shooting stop-motion with GPG for Portfolio Night 8 intro

Mardi 20 octobre 2009

Screen shot 2009-10-19 at 21.27.57

This very post necessarily features one of our latest work. And we are very proud of it! However, you need to read the following notes to get a sense of what this job really means in terms of visibility for our team!

Simply put, the Portfolio Night event is for the young creatives wanting to be evaluated and judged by creative directors around the world on the very same night!!! See a more precise explanation from their website:

« At its core, Portfolio Night is an event where aspiring young advertising copywriters, art directors and designers meet with several renowned advertising creative directors in a fast-paced evening of advice, networking and recruitment. While the evening has been jokingly called “speed-dating for creatives”, it’s really much more than that. In the eight years since its inception, Portfolio Night has grown to a global event, reaching creative hubs in every continent in an evening where the best of the present meets the best of the years to come.

Portfolio Night brings together thousands of young creatives, hundreds of creative directors, dozens of host agencies in cities around the world, and a select few global partners, all in a “one night only” event across the planet. »

For the Portfolio Night 8th edition, Montreal-based (soon departing to Melbourne, AU) director/motion designer Gabriel Poirier-Galarneau was commissioned to produce this year identity. Following his unique style, he decided to present, mainly in b&w, 2 hip and young friendly-fighting creatives  with their portfolios in hands and colored patterns running in specific areas of the animation. All the frames for this 30-sec stop-motion animation were shot by us, SPG LePigeon, early September at our studio in half a day using a quiet simple lighting set up that gave us on the spot a vignette effect.

We should get a link enabling you to see it at will on Vimeo shortly. In the mean time, it is only viewable via the Portfolio Night website’s intro. This is our very first piece of work done with GPG to be shown on the world stage!

This collaboration will run until May 2010 and will be used worldwide for promotionnal purposes by all the agencies involved with the contest. It is obviously a good news to us!

Just so you know, last year Portfolio Night’s identity was created by the people at Sid Lee.
